Our history.....
The Social Golf Club of the Master Builders Tasmania was formed in Hobart in 1971 from the organisation of Bill Shields, Lou Stubbs, Eddie French, Stick Hale and a number of others, representing both Builder and Associate members of the MBA. Lou Stubbs was elected the foundation President. The club is conducted under a constitution, is self supporting both financially and administratively but always with the support of the Master Builders Association. The object of the club is to function solely for the social welfare of the members, each of whom pledges to be an ambassador of goodwill towards all sections of the trade, acting with dignity at all times.
Another core commitment of the club is to participate annually in and at all times to promote the national MBA Inc. tournament competing for the M R Hornibrook Cup. Tasmania entered the scene of Hornibrook Tournaments in 1966 when a small band of golfers from the North West Division, namely Lou Stubbs, Eddie French and Owen Bird participated on a non-state basis. They were so impressed that arrangements were made immediately to seek admission to the tournament for Tasmania and to organise a team for Newcastle in 1967. Seven members made the trip, to be disappointed by the requirement of 8 members per team, until Newcastle, in the spirit of the tournament, loaned Tasmania a player and so made the representation official for the first time.
